Time to Think Green

There is no doubt the pressure is on to ban fossil fuel burning cars and the proposed Government ban of these by 2040, is now being described as too conservative. Advisers are recommending that this should actually be in place as early as 2030.

Either way, the move over to electric vehicles (EV’s) is inevitable and many companies are already beginning to change their fleets over to the EV equivalent for their staff and drivers. However, serious thought needs to be given into the infrastructure and logistics of running electric vehicles before making that move.

Ensuring the workplace has adequate charging facilities is essential, as many EV’s currently have a short range and many company car drivers will clock up those miles very quickly. Companies may also want to provide their visiting clients with access to EV charging points but this requires space and of course money!

The benefits of providing electric car charging points

Offering your workplace electric vehicle charging facilities can bring a number of benefits for your organisation, such as:

  • Reducing travel costs

  • Increasing employee satisfaction

  • Improving productivity

  • Reducing environmental impact

  • Help achieve sustainability goals

  • Enhancing company’s green credentials

Not all workplaces have adequate parking to allow for charging points. Even those that do need to ensure that any points they have fitted meet with the IET Code of Practice for Electric Vehicle Charging Equipment Installation, 4th Edition and do not present a risk with regard to the load on the electrical distribution at the premises.

Whether you are looking to provide electric vehicle charging points for your staff or for your fleet of vehicles, we can help you select the most suitable fast car chargers for your company’s needs. Our qualified engineers provide a reliable installation service which meet the most recent legislation as set out in the IET Wiring Regulations 18th Edition which came in effect from 1st January 2019.
